METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES – February 16, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Bob Adamitis, K9MDO at 7:40 PM.
The minutes of the last meeting (November) were read by Secretary/Treasurer Jack
Nienhaus, W9NJB along with a report of the Annual Winterfest Banquet that was
held on January 19, 2007. The Treasurer’s report was also read and all reports
were approved.
John Holmes, W9ILY, reported that N9WK, Bill Koltz, our member in Oshkosh, is
looking for either a vertical or small beam antenna. If anyone can help Bill
please contact him directly at n9wk@yahoo.com. Jess Colvin, AI9L, raised the
possibility of the club sponsoring a reflector group to enhance communications
between members. The members present approved of the idea and John, W9ILY, said
he would look into establishing one. John also reported that the club entry made
the list on the 160 meter contest results with three members taking part. He
also reported that a certificate had been received for taking part in the
Illinois QSO Party and that a certificate had also been received from the ARRL
for the club’s participation in the Spectrum Defense Fund. Five club members
participated in the RTTY contest and the ARRL International CW contest is taking
place this weekend.
Walt Kline, KA9CBJ, recently recovered from surgery. Bob, K9MDO, John, W9ILY
and Jack, W9NJB visited him at his home and then took Walt out for lunch. At
tonight’s meeting Walt related the contacts he has had with Oak Forest
Hospital officials to secure another meeting room at the hospital. As of now
there is nothing available. He has also contacted the pastor of a church at 165th
and Ridgeland in Tinley Park about the possibility of using a meeting room there
and will hear at a later date if this might be possible. No action will be taken
until further information is received from the hospital.
Roger Borowski, K9RB had surgery today for the removal of several toes due to
his diabetes. Hopefully everything went well. Bill Beyer, N2WB has returned from
Burkina Faso where his group, XT2C made 68,000 Q’s.
Bob, K9MDO, told about his recent cruise to St. Maarten, Grenada, Barbados,
St. Lucia and Tortola. He visited J69AZ while in St. Lucia. Bob and several
other members are anxious to organize another DXpedition this year.
Because of a conflict with the Dayton Hamfest the meeting for May will be
held on May 11th. Note this date on your calendar !
A very interesting DVD was shown on 3YØX, the DXpedition to Peter I Island
that club member Bill Beyer, N2WB participated in. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM.
