METRO DX CLUB MEETING
MINUTES – MARCH 21, 2008
Tonight’s meeting was held at the Midlothian Municipal
Center at 14801 S. Pulaski Rd. and hopefully will become our home from now on.
There is ample parking here and is adjacent to the police department. Thanks to
Jerry Celmer, K9PY, a Midlothian resident, for making arrangements.
The meeting was called to order promptly at 7:30 PM by
President Bob Adamitis, K9MDO. The minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer’s
report were read by Secretary/Treasurer Jack Nienhaus W9NJB and approved by the
members.
Vice President John Holmes, W9ILY reported on contest
results. The club entry in the 2007 WPX contest came in 3rd from the
bottom. In the 2007 CQWW160 contest our club entry was number 64 out of 74
entries. John reported that a steady stream of QSL cards were coming in for club
station W9TY contacts. Next weekend the CQWW WPX-SSB contest will take place and
contacts made should be reported to W9ILY for a club entry.
K9MDO requested that all members forward by e-mail, photos of
themselves at their stations to W9ILY for posting on the club website. In
addition certificates received by members from various contest organizations can
also be posted on the club website. If you don’t have digital camera
equipment, John or some other member will take the photo.
H&W: Bob K9MDO reported that Roger Borowski, K9RB was in
the hospital in Florida last week for blood transfusions. Bob K9MDO recently
visited him. Dot Truhlar N9ALC continues to experience dizzy spells, but
hopefully less frequently than before.
A letter dated February 19, 2008 addressed to Ms. Sylvia
Edwards, RN, MBA the Chief Operating Officer of Oak Forest Hospital was written
and read by Jack Nienhaus W9NJB, requesting permission for the club to conduct
Field Day exercises on the hospital grounds. We were pleased to receive a
response from the hospital granting permission. This solves the second of the
club’s major problems, the first being a meeting location.
Bob K9MDO asked that the Club consider making a $25 donation
to Mike McGirr K9AJ as a small contribution for use in maintaining his DX
cluster site. A motion was made by Jess AI9L and seconded by K9PY. Motion
carried by members and W9NJB was instructed to send check.
Field Day: Bob, K9MDO reappointed Bob Jacobson K9CJ as the
2008 Field Day chairman. A brief discussion was held and it was agreed that the
club entry would again be in the 1A classification. The Club should have a
better chance to rate higher in the scoring with 1A and would probably have
insufficient manpower to operate as 2A. W9NJB will contact his nephew regarding
availability of the RV.
Bob, K9MDO reported that the FP DXpedition story by himself
and W9ILY was published in the Canadian ham radio magazine The Canadian
Amateur. It was also published in QST, WorldRadio and The DX
Magazine. Bob also reported that WorldRadio magazine was upset that
the story was submitted to other ham magazines.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 PM and John W9ILY showed an
interesting documentary of 5A7A – 2006 in Libya.
The members present this evening were: AI9L, AF9H, N9ORD,
K9PY, N9LAH, K9MDO, W9NJB, W9ILY, K9CJ, N9AKR, K9BWQ and XYL Dolores.
Respectfully submitted by Jack Nienhaus W9NJB,
Secretary/Treasurer.
