METRO
DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES –
June 20, 2008
President
Bob Adamitis K9MDO called the meeting to order at
7:30 PM
and then led the membership in the Pledge of
Allegiance. Since our Secretary/Treasurer Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB was absent due to
illness, Vice President John Holmes W9ILY filled in for him and read the minutes
of the last meeting and Treasurer’s report.
John
Holmes, W9ILY, reported that our club achieved third place in the Local Club
category in the ARRL 10-Meter Contest last December. We scored 53,494 points for
our four entries. This may have been our highest finish ever! N9LAH was
congratulated for his station’s finishing in the top 10 W/VE Multi-Single Low
Power category in the ARRL RTTY Roundup in January. Upcoming contests include
Field Day next weekend, the IARU HF Championship on July 12 and the CQWW VHF
Contest on July 19.
Health
& Welfare:
 | K9MDO
had spoken with Bob and Dot Truhlar, W9LNQ and
N9ALC, during the week and reported that their health condition varies from
day-to-day.
|
 | K9MDO
reported on the condition of Roger K9RB who had part of his right leg below
the knee amputated. Bob spent a week in
Florida
with Roger during the month.
While there, a mutual friend, N1WON, visited Roger and Bob.
 | Jack,
W9NJB, spent a week in the hospital during the last month due to heart
problems. He has been home for the last two weeks but was not feeling well
enough to attend tonight’s meeting.

Old
Business:
 | Field
Day – all members are welcome to attend and operate the Field Day station.
Please let K9CJ, our Field Day chairman, know if you wish to operate. Help
will be needed for set up on Friday evening and everyone is asked to be
there at
6 P.M.
We have received permission from the
Oak Forest
Hospital
for our Field Day operation, and W9NJB
has issued the News Release. K9MDO may have to pick up the motor home from
W9NJB’s son. N9AKR will be providing the primary generator, the club’s
unit will be the backup and Dave Alm WG9J has
offered his generator, if needed. The Club will pay for all gas and food.
 | Club
By-Laws – K9MDO explained the current club operating rules (the By-Laws),
which had been updated to 13 from the original 10. Bob read the By-Laws as
updated. These now include the
additional “Honorary Lifetime Member” provisions. Following the reading
and discussion, it was moved by AF9H and seconded by N9ORD that the new
provisions be approved. The motion passed by a voice vote. |

New
Business:
 | Picnic
– The Second Annual Club Picnic was discussed. AF9H and AI9L had
previously suggested that it be held at their home in Braceville,
as was done last year. Various dates were discussed and Saturday, August 16,
at
2:00
was set as the tentative date and time.
Bob, N9ORD will be the chairman. After determining who will attend, a
list of dishes, salads, and desserts will be distributed and attendees can
opt for what they would like to bring. The Club at a previous meeting
suggested that this would be a “pot luck” arrangement with the Club
paying for any additional food or beverages not brought by participants.
 | BARS
Hamfest – K9MDO offered two tickets to the
BARS Hamfest on August 3. AF9H and AI9L will be
there as QSL Field Checkers.

to N9ORD for his providing pop and a selection of cookies for the meeting. The

and the program “The K3LR Contest
Station” was presented by program chairman W9ILY.
Those
present tonight were: K9BWQ and XYL Dolores, N9AKR, W9ILY, K9CJ, K9MDO, N9LAH,
AI9L, AF9H, and WF9V.
