Metro DX Club Meeting Minutes
June 15, 2018
The meeting was called to order by our President, Jim N9TK, with the Pledge
of Allegiance to the Flag.
In attendance, besides Jim were John K9DRS, Joe KA9QAT, Mike K9ACM, Mel NE9A,
Matt K9BBQ, Jerry K9PY, Bob N9ORD, Bob K9CJ, Steve W9KXT, Ed K9EGS, Ron WB9JYZ,
Susan K9XYL, Mike K9AJ, Jim NV9X, Mike K9LSH, John W9ILY, Lee WA9LEY.
OLD BUSINESS
The MINUTES of the previous meeting were approved.
The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed. John W9ILY, presented the Club's
treasurer report which shows the club in good financial condition. Details can
be found on our metrodxclub.io reflector.
DAYTON John W9ILY reported having a great time at Dayton this year. The food
vendors were good as was transportation. There was some rain but it didn't spoil
the event. Some buildings had AC and some of our members attended the many
seminars offered.
JIM NV9X reported having a good time at a radio conference he attended in
Branson.
WUST Two new WUST awards were awarded this month.
HEALTH AND WELFARE We continue to keep Phil N9LAH and XYL Cindy in our
thoughts.
CQ WW CW Our club placed #43 of 63 entries.
NEW BUSINESS
Outbound QSL Service Jerry K9PY reported on our club's participation in the
ARRL outgoing QSL bureau Continue to bring your QSLs to the meetings. Each
member pays a share of the processing cost. A motion was made and approved for
the club to pick-up any deficit incurred, this month it amounted to $3.10.
Metro Picnic Jerry WB9Z and Val NV9L are hosting our picnic this year. The
date is Saturday August 11 beginning at noon. Everyone is asked to bring a dish
to pass. A list will be prepared to advise what you are bringing. The club is
providing meat and soft drinks. Bringing your own chairs is advised.
Field Day 9am set-up with FD starting at 1pm. Jerry K9LOT has offered the
club the use of his motor home. We will be operating 2A again this year. Bob
K9CJ reports that things are coming together and that he has most of the
required items set to go. John W9ILY has configured the computers we will use.
We will have 2 HF stations and 1 VHF station on the air. Chefs Bob and Jerry
have finalized the menu. Mike K9LSH providing sausage and special sauce. Sat
& Sun lunch will offer sandwiches and sides Sat dinner will include
hamburgers and sausage. This will be a fun event and there will be plenty of
opportunities to operate. Please bring your own chair.
Special Event W9C has been reserved for Oct 11-21 to commemorate the Illinois
Bi Centennial Celebration. A notice will be in QST. An on-line signup is being
worked on to reserve times for members to operate from their homes. Jim N9TK may
host an operating event from his house. We talked about asking stations
requesting a QSL for a small donation to defray QSLing costs. The plan is to
donate any surplus funds to the David Kalter Youth Adventure.
KH1 Another donation of $100 was approved to help with the upcoming KH1 Baker
Island DXpedition. We usually only donate to the main DX foundations but make an
exception for those DXpeditions to countries associated with the WUST award that
Metro sponsors.
Insurance Our annual insurance is $200/yr. Payment was approved and seconded.
We also voted to allow the Treasurer to pay the premium in the future without a
club vote.
Announcements Congratulations to Jerry WB9Z and Val NV9L who were married on
June 2nd.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting for refreshments.
Program Lee WA9LEY made a presentation on the WWFF program, World Wide Flora
and Fauna. A general introduction to the program was made. Some YouTube videos
of actual activations were shown.
