METRO
DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES –
May 29, 2009
The
meeting was called to order at
7:33PM
by President Bob Adamitis K9MDO who then led the
group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer’s report were read by
Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB Secretary/Treasurer. The
members approved them.
Vice President John Holmes, W9ILY
reported on contest activities:
Oklahoma
QSO Party – W9OA scored 4680 points, W9ILY
scored 3021 points. Metro finished #15 out of 27 club entries.
NAQP
RTTY contest – Five members competed: N9LAH, AI9L, N9AKR, W9ILY, K9PY. Team
score was 52,418.
CQWPX
2008 contest – Metro entry had 271,024 points.
CQWW
RTTY 2008 contest – K9PY and W9ILY participated.
W9ILY
talked about renewed activity on 6 meters and coming contests including Field
Day and the ARRL VHF QSO Party June 13-15. John also read a portion of the ARRL
Contest Update that noted how technology might possibly be used in the future
for log checking. In addition, John pointed out that some contest results
include the ability to print a participation certificate directly from the
Internet.
H&W:
Jim Mornar, N9TK’s mother passed away and Metro members expressed their
condolences to Jim and his family.
K9MDO
and his wife Karen WB9YBL were in
Ecuador
and the
Galapagos Islands
May 3rd to 16th and Bob
related some of his experiences and impressions of the country.
The
NCDXF sent a notice reminding us that our annual donation was past due.
Bob K9CJ made a motion that the club send $50
to them which was seconded by Dennis KA9ZZT and approved by the membership.
The biannual NCDXF newsletter the Club has received will be distributed
in a PDF file via the Metro DX Club reflector.
Annual
Club Picnic: This will be held on
August 15th at the Colvin’s in Braceville.
It was suggested that we hold a 50/50 or perhaps give some sort of a
prize. Picnic Chairman Bob N9ORD
will be putting out a letter to members about what to bring for a potluck meal.
The program at the picnic will be given by member WB9Z Jerry Rosalius.
Field
Day: Dennis KA9ZZT advised that the masts and hardware that were left at the
hospital grounds were not there last year when he went to pick them up.
A motion was made by Jess AI9L and seconded by Dennis KA9ZZT that
authorized the club to spend up to $200 to replace this equipment.
Motion carried.
Special
Event Station: The Club has
obtained the special club call W9M from the FCC that can be used between
September 26 and October 10 for a special event to celebrate the 30th
anniversary of the founding of the Metro DX Club. The letter M refers to Metro.
Details to be worked out later.
The
program tonight was a DVD entitled “J5C Guinea–Bissau 2008”.
The program was very interesting as the team included Metro member N2WB
“Wild Bill” Beyer.
Refreshments
tonight were provided by Frank, K9BWQ. Next
month’s refreshments will be provided by Dennis KA9ZZT.
