Metro DX Club Meeting Minutes
November 18, 2016
The meeting was called to order by President Jim N9TK, with the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag at 19:29.
In attendance besides Jim were John W9ILY, John K9DRS, Bob K9CJ, Matt KA9BBQ,
Bob N9ORD, Kurt WB9FMC, Jerry K9PY, Mike K9LSH, Mel K9ZAV, Dennis KA9ZZT, Jerry
K9LOT, Jim NV9X, Mike W9MK and Thomas N9IHZ.
OLD BUSINESS:
Health and Welfare: Nothing to report.
The MINUTES of the previous meeting were moved approved by K9CJ and seconded
by KA9ZZT.
The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed by John, W9ILY indicating a balance of
$946.18 is available for donations. Income of $135.00 was from dues and
donations. Expenses of $121.11 were incurred for postage and special event
costs. A motion to approve the treasurer's report was made by KA9BBQ and
seconded by N9ORD
NO WUST activity to report this month.
CONTEST RESULTS:
A report was given for the NAQP RTTY February contest where we finished in
26th place and 36th place with two teams including the "METRO SOUTHSIDE HIT
MEN".
For the NAQP RTTY in July we finished 14th of 37 clubs with three club
members active: W9ILY, WA9LEY and N9LAH.
Coming up is CQWW the weekend after Thanksgiving.
The W9C REPORT: Our special event remembering Walter Cronkite had 1933
contacts, 623 confirmed on LOTW, and 3919 QRZ.com "hits". Operations
were phone, CW and digital with the majority of contacts made at the station of
WB9Z and NV9L. Certificates and QSL cards for contact with W9C were distributed
to members in attendance prior to the start of the meeting. QSL cards received
were passed around for review. It's time to consider a special event for next
year.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations for club officers: Our officers agreed to continue next year.
Dues for 2017 are now due. Dues remain at $15.
A donation will be made to National Navy-UDT Seal Museum in memory of Jack
W9NJB for $50.
N9TK presented comments on the BOUVET DXPEDITION in 2018 and an opportunity
for donations. Metro will make a donation in 2017.
Winter Dinner is scheduled January 20, 2017. Tickets are available from
WA9LEY at $23. Payment may be made by cash or check to Lee or PayPal to W9TY.
Any "white elephant" donations would be appreciated for a raffle.
General Discussion: A mention was made of a new power amplifier awaiting FCC
approval. Also, QRP operations were discussed.
Following a motion to adjourn by W9MK and second by K9LSH, the meeting was
called to a CLOSE at 20:02.
Following a short break a video on the W9C event at NV9L was shown as
presented on HAM NATION. This was followed by the ARRL video "AMATEUR RADIO
TODAY", narrated by Walter Cronkite. The last video was from DX ENGINEERING
showing the new DAYTON HAMVENTION meeting site.
