METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES –
OCTOBER 24, 2008
Tonight’s
meeting was called to order at
7:30 PM
by President Bob Adamitis K9MDO who then led the
members in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer’s report were read
by Secretary/ Treasurer Jack Nienhaus W9NJB and approved by the members.
John Holmes W9ILY showed QSL cards just received from the Bureau for the club
station W9TY. Many of them were
for contacts years ago. It seems
some of the foreign hams are catching up on their QSLing.

The
sentence in the minutes of the last meeting that the closing of the Old
Barn Restaurant was a false rumor turned out to be false itself, when
several weeks later they phoned K9MDO to tell him that the restaurant
would be closing and that we would have to find a new location for our
banquet in January. We had
some suggestions from the members that will have to be checked out.
The ones mentioned were Asbury House on
159th St.
, Foxes in
Oak Lawn
or
Orland Park
and Hackney’s in
Palos
Park

An
e-mail was received by W9ILY from member Tom Palmisano
W9AEB inviting Metro members to make use of the repeater on 146.955 PL
114.8 that is regularly being used for DX
spotting purposes and in general talking about DX.
Also involved with the repeater are Metro members Bob WF9V, Dave
WG9J, Bob N9MKZ and others. Thanks
Tom. |
 |
K9MDO
remarked that we are now coming out of a long lull in the sunspot cycle
that will improve DX propagation and should interest more hams in becoming
more active in DXing.
This should also be an opportunity to sign up some new members for
Metro.

K9MDO
called the members attention to Article VII of the club by-laws that
states: “Nominations for office and election will take place during the
November meeting each year. The
officers elected will take office at the January meeting.” The present
officers have been in office for quite some time and perhaps it is time
for a change to get some new ideas and plans for the club. |
The meeting was adjourned at
8:30 PM
. John W9ILY presented a video
from the ARRL library that presented an early history of ham radio.
It was very interesting.
Present at tonight’s gathering
were W9ILY, N9AKR, K9PY, K9BWQ and XYL Dolores,
K9CJ, AI9L,
AF9H, N9LAH,
K9MDO and W9NJB.
Respectfully submitted by Jack Nienhaus W9NJB Secretary/Treasurer
