Metro DX Meeting Sept. 23, 2011
The meeting was called to order by President Bob Jacobson, K9CJ, at
approximately 7:40. The meeting was
held at the Orland Oasis Restaurant, a temporary location.
The minutes from the previous meeting and treasurer’s report were not read
as the Secretary/Treasurer was unable to attend.
Old business: K9CJ announced that our club has a new permanent location. The
meetings will be held in the basement of the Public Service building at
17355 S. 68th Court
in
Tinley Park
. We will start using the facility for the October meetings and thereafter. Bob
had sent 48 letters to inquire about having our meeting at a different location
and only three or four others had responded stating there would be a cost for
each meeting. For the new location, two club members will have electronic “FOBs”:
K9CJ and W9ILY who is the Trustee of our W9TY license.
Both the OJ0A and VP8ORK DXpeditions were
discussed.
The results of the 2010 CQWW contest were read by
W9ILY. While Metro ranked only #40 out of 69 club entries with 1,695,052 points,
the high score was due primarily to W9OA’s submission in CQWW-CW with over 1
million points. Thanks, George!
K9PY noted that his expenses for the picnic were
under $50. W9ILY noted that he also had expenses associated with the W.U.S.T.
Awards.
New business: The 4W6 Dxpedition has concluded and most of the logs are now
on LoTW. The ones for 12, 15 and 30 are needed.
The W9DXCC Convention was attended by several Metro members and various
activities were discussed. Among them was the video presentation of the K9CT
antenna farm. He has 11 towers and used 1,100 feet of hardline in his
installation. At the convention dinner, WB9Z received the DXer of the Year
award. Congratulations, Jerry!
A copy of the SouthtownStar newspaper that
featured W9LNQ and N9ALC's 70th anniversary on the front page was read by the
members. Congratulations to Bob and Dot!
An email received from W9UM earlier in the year was read in which Nick
regretted his being unable to attend the Metro meetings.
Word was received that W9AEB’s mother had passed away. W9ILY will send a
sympathy card on behalf of the club.
Some members are having problems in receiving emails from the Yahoo Groups
account (the reflector). W9ILY has investigated an alternative and will send an
email to club members with the details.
K9PY reported on his recent problem with his email address being hijacked.
The cure was for him to change his passwords on his Yahoo accounts.
Winterfest will be held on the third Friday in January, 2012. K9CJ will
follow up with the same location that was used in previous years and provide
details.
The election of officers will take place in November. Members are asked to be
prepared for this activity.
The meeting was adjourned approximately 8:15 and several short videos were
shown that included a brief
Dayton
presentation and one from a Bhutan DXpedition.
Present at tonight’s meeting were K9CJ, K9PY, K9BWQ & Delores, NV9X and
W9ILY
Respectfully submitted by W9ILY in lieu of the Secretary/Treasurer
